Nine Haiku

An American
flag painted on a dumpster—
what else can you say?

*

What's after freedom
of religion? Maybe
freedom from religion?

*

For Lent I gave up
religion. Then I forgot
all about Easter.

*

Don't you think if it
was really such a smart bomb
it would not go off?

*

Lacking certainty
about most things we lean on
the earth's sturdiness.

*

The blues by any
other name are still about
the shade of a bruise.

*

There's so many
commercials, I can't remember
what I was watching.

*

"So far everything
has worked out pretty well," thought
Custer one fine morn.

*

Standing in linethat's
what school broke us for. A good
