The Gates Of Hell

"George W. Bush opened the gates of hell."
     — Thom Hartmann

Taliban offered to turn bin Laden over
to a third country for trial. W. said no.
Something in his coke-addled brain whiffed-and wanted-hell.

On 9/11, three thousand flamed out of this world.
Some of us raged, but some prayed. For a few weeks
it appeared we might choose heaven over hell.

Seventies America had soured on militarism.
Reagan got the job of putting people to sleep,
made them forget they'd ever been told "War is hell."

Joseph Wilson debunked the yellow-cake claim.
Hans Blix declared, "No WMD's in Iraq."
Still Rumsfeld and Cheney plotted to give Saddam hell.

On Veteran's Day, NPR grimly reports
Marines blown up in Kandahar. The White House
deliberates endless occupation of hell.

Thom Hartmann is right-eight years, everyday
death and killing suck our souls dry since Bush
released war demons out the gates of hell.
