to the four hijackers
praying, sweating,

two behind,
teeth clenched—

tender farewells,
how to find the last will
and other final instructions.

Then at the end
when the screen explodes
into blackness
one hundred groans
from one hundred throats
as the audience files out
as though at a wake.
