Letter to Theophilus About the End of Evolution

Dear Theo: This morning Reverend Kennedy
of TV fame announced that as soon as President
Bush appoints the new Supreme Court judges,
evolution will crumble before our eyes because
these new judges will make it illegal to teach any

science that isn't an actual fact. Creationism will
take the place of Darwin's theory and Intelligent
Design will be taught instead of evolution and
survival of the fittest. I'll tell you this. If we are
unable to keep these fundamentalist Christians

from taking over our government and courts, then
we will have to fess up to the fact that they are more
capable of taking over than we are - and, therefore,
the fittest for survival. Forget that the model
of evolution is expressed in the development of

every social institution, gestation period for every
species, and the maturing process of every idea.
Even language proves evolution. That is why
letters become words, words become sentences,
sentences become paragraphs, paragraphs become

essays and essays become a body of literature.
Things are developmental whether Dr. Kennedy
likes it or not. But think of it. If these pesky
people have their way - science, truth, justice and
political freedom will enter a new Age of Darkness
